Experience one of the Philippines' most iconic diving expeditions aboard Philippines Explorer I. Departing from Campomanes Bay, this seven-night voyage crosses the Sulu Sea to explore the legendary reefs of Tubbataha Reefs Natural Park and the remote islands that lie along its outer edges. Combining pristine coral reefs, pelagic encounters, isolated island communities, and spectacular underwater landscapes, the journey offers a unique perspective on one of the country's most remarkable marine environments. At the heart of the expedition lies Tubbataha Reefs Natural Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site accessible to divers for only a short season each year. Over several days, we explore both the North and South Atolls as well as the famous Jessie Beazley Reef, visiting a variety of walls, channels, reefs, and pinnacles that have earned Tubbataha its reputation as one of the world's premier marine protected areas. Beyond the atolls themselves, the voyage also offers the opportunity to discover the quieter corners of the Sulu Sea. Remote islands, traditional communities, and reefs seldom visited by dive boats add a sense of exploration that has long defined this region. Designed for divers who appreciate both exceptional diving and the experience of travelling through remote waters, this itinerary offers a memorable journey aboard Philippines Explorer I.

Welcome aboard Philippines Explorer I. Please arrive at the vessel by 2:00pm (14:00). Following a welcome drink, cabin orientation, and safety briefing, there will be plenty of time to settle into life aboard, prepare dive equipment, and get acquainted with your fellow guests and crew. As the sun sets over the coast of Negros, enjoy your first evening aboard while Philippines Explorer I begins its overnight crossing westward into the Sulu Sea. Ahead lies one of the most celebrated dive destinations in Southeast Asia.
The first day of diving introduces us to the remote reefs and islands surrounding Cagayancillo and nearby Calusa Island. These isolated waters offer healthy coral reefs, excellent visibility, and abundant marine life, providing a wonderful start to the expedition. Depending on conditions, dives may reveal turtles, schools of reef fish, and occasional pelagic visitors cruising along the reef slopes. Above the surface, the islands themselves offer a glimpse into life in one of the most remote corners of the Philippines. Following two or three dives, Philippines Explorer I continues westward through the Sulu Sea as we set course for Tubbataha.
By morning we arrive at Tubbataha Reefs Natural Park. Rising from deep oceanic waters, this UNESCO World Heritage Site protects one of the most intact reef ecosystems in Southeast Asia. Our first dives take place around the North Atoll, including the famous Shark Airport area, where whitetip reef sharks are frequently seen resting on the sandy seabed alongside turtles, rays, and large schools of fish. Between dives, there may be an opportunity to visit the ranger station and learn more about the conservation efforts that help protect this extraordinary marine park. Seabirds are often seen circling overhead, adding another dimension to the experience.
The day begins at Jessie Beazley Reef, an isolated seamount northwest of the North Atoll. Surrounded by deep blue water and exposed to strong currents, the reef attracts a wide variety of larger marine life. Schools of jacks, barracuda, tuna, and several species of sharks are regular visitors, ensuring that every dive offers something different. Later, we return to the North Atoll to explore the reefs surrounding the Malayan Wreck area. While the remains of the vessel still rest on the reef, the true attraction is the thriving ecosystem that has developed around it. Sloping coral gardens, excellent visibility, and abundant fish life make this one of the most enjoyable areas of the atoll.
Our exploration continues at Tubbataha's South Atoll. The Delsan Wreck area is renowned for its concentration of marine life, with schools of jacks and barracuda frequently gathering around the reef corners. Dogtooth tuna, reef sharks, and other pelagic visitors are often seen moving through the surrounding blue water. Later dives reveal the dramatic walls and coral formations of the Southwest Wall, where healthy hard corals and impressive drop-offs descend into the depths of the Sulu Sea. Together, these sites showcase the remarkable diversity that defines the South Atoll.
Black Rock is among the best-known dive sites within the South Atoll. When currents are favourable, nutrients flowing across the reef attract large numbers of fish and create excellent opportunities for pelagic encounters. Schools of reef fish gather in the blue while larger predators patrol the current lines beyond. The combination of vibrant coral growth, steep walls, and the constant movement of marine life perfectly illustrates the dynamic nature of Tubbataha's ecosystem. As evening approaches, there is time to relax on deck and reflect on several unforgettable days within this remarkable marine sanctuary.
Leaving Tubbataha behind, the journey turns eastward through the remote islands of the Sulu Sea. Diving around Arena and Cavili Islands offers a different experience from the oceanic atolls. Healthy reefs, crystal-clear water, and a strong sense of isolation define these little-visited destinations. The islands themselves provide a reminder that much of the Sulu Sea remains far removed from mainstream tourism. After the final dives of the expedition, Philippines Explorer I begins its overnight return toward Negros, allowing guests to enjoy one last evening under the stars.
This morning we arrive back in Campomanes Bay, bringing the voyage to an end. Over the course of eight days, this expedition explores a remarkable cross-section of the Sulu Sea from the remote islands of Cagayancillo to the reefs of Tubbataha and back again. Combining world-class diving, remote island exploration, and the experience of travelling through one of the Philippines' least-visited marine regions, it offers a journey unlike any other in the country. For divers seeking pristine reefs, pelagic encounters, and a true sense of exploration, few destinations can match what awaits beyond the horizon. We look forward to welcoming you aboard and sharing this adventure with you.
