DEEP SOUTH / TIGER ZOO A strong-character itinerary focused on the most remote atolls and the most committed diving in the southern Maldives. This 7-night cruise takes you into the heart of Gaafu Alifu, Gaafu Dhaalu, Fuvahmulah and Seenu, in a region that is wilder, more oceanic and more exclusive. Here, the emphasis is on big marine life and thrilling encounters, with exposed channels, deep drop-offs and sites renowned for tiger sharks, hammerheads, threshers, mantas and other large pelagics. A more intense, rawer and more distinctly big-stuff itinerary, designed for divers who want to discover the most spectacular and least explored side of the far south. Gaafu Alifu / Dhaalu Atolls Viligilhi Kandu Level: Advanced • Depth: 30 m • Photo: Wide Angle Here, the current immediately sets the tone and turns the dive into a true pelagic spectacle. Along the lips of the channel, grey reef sharks, eagle rays, jacks and large schools of fish ride the flow, creating a powerful atmosphere that is typical of the far south. Grey reef sharks, blacktip reef sharks, barracuda, jacks and eagle rays cross paths here in a dense, fast-paced and unmistakably Maldivian dive. Kooddoo Ethere Level: Advanced • Depth: 30 m • Photo: Wide Angle More unusual than the other sites in the area, this spot stands out for its rare encounters and its atmosphere of anticipation. Divers come here mainly in the hope of seeing the elegant spinner shark and, at times, a bull shark, in a short but emotionally intense dive. Nilandhoo Kandu Level: Advanced • Depth: 30 m • Photo: Wide Angle In this open and very fish-rich channel, hunting scenes and pelagic pass-bys give the dive its full character. Reef sharks, eagle rays and compact schools of fish regularly gather here, making for a lively and rhythmical dive. Maareha Kandu Level: Advanced • Depth: 30 m • Photo: Wide Angle The scenery shifts here, with an outer wall exposed to the open ocean and a more oceanic than reef-like atmosphere. Out in the blue, grey reef sharks, eagle rays and schools of fish patrol regularly, with the added possibility, depending on conditions, of spotting hammerheads.
Fuvahmulah holds a unique place in the Maldives. Located in the far south of the archipelago, this singular island-atoll, designated as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, stands apart through a geography very different from that of the classic atolls: a fringing reef, no true inner lagoon, and direct exposure to the deep blue and the open ocean. This configuration creates ideal conditions for pelagic encounters and explains the site’s worldwide reputation among divers seeking large marine life. Divers come to Fuvahmulah for a rawer, more oceanic and more committed style of diving, with the possibility of encountering tiger sharks, hammerheads, threshers, oceanic mantas, mola mola and other offshore predators. It is one of the most singular and spectacular diving destinations in the Maldives. Foammulah South Plateau Level: Advanced • Depth: 30 m • Photo: 24-60 or Wide Angle The atmosphere immediately becomes wilder, deeper and more focused on big marine life. Hammerheads, tiger sharks, threshers, silvertips and, more occasionally, oceanic mantas or mola mola may appear on this committed dive, which perfectly captures the big-stuff spirit of the far south. Foammulah Thundi Level: Advanced • Depth: 30 m • Photo: Wide Angle On this more open site, every minute has the potential to turn the dive into something exceptional. The search for thresher sharks gives it a very special dimension, in a deep, vibrant blue that keeps the tension and excitement constantly alive. Foammulah Tiger Zoo Level: Intermediate • Depth: 20-30 m • Photo: 24-60 Few dives offer such a direct encounter with one of the ocean’s great predators. At this now iconic site, observing tiger sharks becomes an experience that is at once spectacular, fascinating and deeply memorable.
Koattey corner Level: Intermediate • Depth: 30 m • Photo: 24-60 A reef point extending out into the ocean, this is a superb dive where mantas, grey reef sharks, whitetip reef sharks, large schools of jacks and tuna may all be encountered.
